Tips to Preventing Mosquitoes, Ticks and Fleas

Don’t be fooled by the cooler fall weather! Ticks, mosquitoes, and fleas still thrive in the fall! In fact, mosquitoes are still active until temperatures consistently drop below 50 degrees. And you may have even noticed stink bugs creeping up in your home!

Did you know that here at Mosquito Joe we treat for stink bugs as well? Stink bugs search for overwintering sites in late fall to find shelter from the winter weather (aka your home). They reemerge in early spring and become active. Since arriving from Asia, stink bugs have become a nuisance for homeowners in the eastern half of the United States. Known for their smelly reputation, stink bugs secrete a bad-smelling, bad-tasting fluid when disturbed or crushed. While they are not known to bite humans or animals, we recommend being careful when handling them to avoid the strong odor. In layman’s terms, try not to crush them!

Getting Rid of Mosquitoes and Ticks - 50 Degrees - Wayne, NJ

In most areas, fall is the worst season for fleas. The autumn season brings beautiful colored leaves which is wonderful, but fleas thrive in leaf piles! Please be sure to clean up leaves on a regular basis and secure them in an enclosed bag outside of your home. Treating for fleas is very important, especially if you have pets that are often outdoors. Once you have fleas in your home, they are very difficult (and expensive) to treat!

Ticks love to climb up tall grasses so that they can grab onto a passing animal or person (ew). We suggest mowing your lawn regularly and trimming back branches and trees to avoid these pesky creatures.

Following these tips along with getting our barrier spray, your yard will be rid of these pests so you can enjoy the beautiful weather outside with your family and furry friends!

As a friendly reminder, we strongly recommend that you continue your sprays for the next month in order to keep these insects at bay. We are now offering a special price of $150 for two sprays up to a half acre in yard size.
