Weddings

It’s the big day, and the happy couple is excited to tie the knot! Something old, new, borrowed and blue have all been acquired, and the aisle looks like a pathway straight to heaven. The wedding party is in place, eyes are already glistening, and the string quartet begins to play… accompanied by the droning whine of mosquitoes. Outdoor ceremonies and receptions are beautiful, but run the risk of attracting some uninvited pests. The spotlight should be on the lovebirds, not the bugs buzzing around. Our barrier treatments help stave off winged intruders while still maintaining a gorgeous outdoor venue.

BBQs

In the heat of high summer, many people turn to one of their favorite summer activities: barbecuing. Friends and family gather around the grill to exchange stories, smiles and laughs. A backyard cookout is a seasonal treat, one that shouldn’t be shared with mosquitoes! Ensure that the food is the only feast being served and that the delicious smell of ribs doesn’t compete with the pungent scent of insect repellent. After 30 minutes of drying time, our treatments ensure everyone can enjoy the sunshine and warmth itch-free!

We know you’re eager to enjoy the weather with your loved ones, so give us a call at (973) 435-0745 to schedule your treatment today! For further questions, email wayne@mosquitoejoe.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

Enjoy Your September Event Bug-Free!

Are you getting married or having a special event this fall in New Jersey? Read these tips on how to be smitten and not bitten.

New Jersey is the absolute perfect location for a fall time wedding or outdoor event. Being in close proximity to New York City, as well as several large airports, it makes it an easy place to travel to. New Jersey also offers a large range of venues including catering halls, beaches, rustic barns and large open fields. The fall season tends to be the driest in New Jersey which is a huge reason for its popularity. It seems like a beautiful outdoor New Jersey event would be something out of a fairytale. However, one thing that could put a wrench in your plans would be wedding or event crashers in the form of ticks and mosquitoes.

With the Summer winding down, you may think that mosquitoes and ticks will be less active but actually, it’s quite the opposite. The adult stages of black-legged ticks begin to become active as the season changes from summer into fall. In the northeastern United States, such as New Jersey, these adult stage ticks start to become abundant early in October. They will remain active through the winter as long as the temperatures are above freezing and the ground is not frozen or covered by snow.

Mosquitoes don’t immediately disappear with the start of the fall season either. They become less active after the temperature consistently hits below 50 degrees. The average temperature at the end of October in New Jersey is 55 degrees. That means mosquitoes could be staying around a lot longer than what we all thought.

When you’re hosting an outdoor event, the last thing you want to worry about is your guests getting covered in insect bites or even worst, tick bites. There are several things you could do to combat these issues head-on.

For mosquitoes, keep in mind what time of day they are most likely to strike. Your guests are most likely to be bit between dusk and dawn, so you might want to schedule your event festivities to avoid those hours. Include flowers around your venue that typically repel mosquitoes like lavender, marigolds and citronella. For ticks, you want to make sure your event space has been recently landscaped as ticks like to hide out in long grasses.

Of course, the only way to be fully prepared in fighting against these pests would be getting your yard or venue sprayed by one of our Mosquito Joe professionals. Call Mosquito Joe in Wayne today at (973) 435-0747 to discuss your options about spraying for your special event. We recommend getting the venue sprayed several days before your event. Mosquito Joe can come to your event location in advance to apply a barrier spray and ensure that your guests don’t suffer from mosquito bites. Dry within 30 minutes and applied well before the food is prepared, special event sprays provide protection throughout the day, from setup to the last dance – giving you less to worry about.

Share the MoJo this Spring

We are starting to reach the light at the end of the tunnel here in New Jersey after a long, cold winter. Spring weather is almost here! Gone are the days where we are stuck inside all day. Now we can start planning all of our outdoor spring parties. May is always known to be the start of communion, graduation, and wedding season. You also might have outdoor plans for Mother’s Day or bridal and baby showers. When organizing your guest list, you want to make sure certain party crashers don’t show up, AKA ticks and mosquitoes!

Even though you wouldn’t think it is warm enough for ticks yet, April is actually the start of tick season here in New Jersey. Leftover adult ticks that didn’t find a host to prey on over the winter are out and hungry! The last thing you want as a party host, is to have your guests having to go home and check their clothing for unexpected pests. It is better to avoid this problem to begin with! By having one of our professionals come to spray your yard, you can have peace of mind that this won’t happen.

Soon enough, pools and ponds will start to open. Open water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. This is especially a problem because female mosquitoes are often looking for a meal (i.e. you!) right after they mate. As the summer progresses, the mosquito breeding accelerates because the warm weather helps them to lay and hatch eggs faster. That just means more and more mosquitoes buzzing around your yard. Having your yard sprayed will help you stay on top of this mosquito problem.

When your friends are enjoying themselves pest-free at your spring event, consider our Mosquito Joe referral program, Share the MoJo. For each friend that you recommend Mosquito Joe, you can receive a $25 credit! Your friend will also receive a $25 credit towards their mosquito treatment. Keep those pest-free parties going and you can refer up to 20 friends for a credit of $500!

Give one of our professionals at Mosquito Joe a call today at 973-435-0747 to have them discuss your treatment options. Please visit our website at wayne.mosquitojoe.com to learn more.

We can put your mind at ease so you can focus on planning the party of the season! Happy spring 🙂

Mosquito Season is Right Around the Corner

With all this frigid, icy weather surrounding us, it’s hard to believe that spring, wedding and communion season is right around the corner. Spring is only 60 days away and that means it’s time to consider how you are going to get your backyard ready for all your spring outdoor activities. With all this frigid, icy weather surrounding us, it’s hard to believe that spring, wedding and communion season is right around the corner. Spring is only 60 days away and that means it’s time to consider how you are going to get your backyard ready for all your spring outdoor activities.

April also marks the start of our mosquito season in New Jersey. Did you know that mosquitoes start becoming active when the temperature is consistently 50 degrees? As the temperatures rise higher, the volume of mosquito activity will only increase. It’s better to stay on top of your mosquito problems from the beginning so you have better control during the rest of mosquito season.

During the winter months, some female mosquitoes will find holes to live in while they wait for warmer weather. That means once it is warm enough they will be ready to lay their eggs, and they can lay up to 300 at one time. They usually lay eggs three times before they die, which means that you could have 900 eggs from the one female mosquito! Luckily our experts at Mosquito Joe are here to help. By calling in one of our technicians, we can treat your yard so that the mosquito larvae won’t have a chance at survival.

Mosquitoes aren’t the only pests that are ready to ruin your spring plans. Ticks survive the cold winter months by laying dormant or latching on to a host when it gets too cold. By the time March and April roll around, those adult ticks are ready to lay their eggs. It will take several weeks for the larva to hatch, which makes early spring the ideal time to spray for ticks and to clear your yard of all their eggs.

By eliminating the tick and mosquito breeding grounds early in the season, you will be able to manage your pest problem before it grows exponentially. The last thing you want in your yard for a spring party or event is thousands of uninvited guests in the form of mosquitoes and ticks! Protect yourself, your family and your pets this spring!
