Car and Bike Show

On Sunday, October 7 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, enjoy the third annual Lincoln Black Label Car & Bike Show at 1910 Route 23 North, Wayne, NJ. This event is free to all and there will be food trucks, live music, vendors and a whole lot more. This outing is perfect for any car-loving kid or kid at heart.

Saunter up to the Saddle Brook Street Fair

If you’re not interested in the Car and Bike Show, head out to the Saddle Brook Street Fair on Saturday, October 7th from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM for a giant block party. There will be all types of vendors, merchants, civic groups, music plus plenty of fun for the kids including carnival rides, pony rides and even a clown. Come hungry since there will be everything from cotton candy and kettle corn to sausage, pizza, zeppoles, and more!

Family Fall Festival

Come one, come all to the Family Fall Festival which is the perfect outing for everyone in your crew! Check out the Family Fall Festival on Saturday, October 13th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Faith Community Church in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Fall fun includes:

There will be 100 art exhibitor which you can peruse while listening to Irish music from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM. There will also be a juried show with cash prizes and art demos. After you’ve built up an appetite from all of your art exploring, visit the food truck making delicious specialty grilled cheese sandwiches.

Fall Craft Show

On Sunday, October 14th, the annual Wayne Valley High School Fall Craft Show will bring one hundred quality crafters from three states together. Explore all the handmade crafts which will be available in the gym. This is a great event to use to check a few Christmas gifts off your list. Talented vendors will bring a variety of items including:

Fall Fest at Tranquility Farms

Halloween 5K to Scare Hunger Away

Get your running-friendly costume on for the 4th Annual Halloween 5K on Sunday, October 28th at the Garret Mountain Reservation. Also included are trick-or-treat stations, a costume contest, a USATF-certified course, kids fun run, food, music, and much more. Plus, a portion of the proceeds will help fight hunger in New Jersey!

Looking for a place to bring kids to trick or treat? Consider Rock ‘n’ Joe Coffee Bar in Union, NJ from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 27th. Come in your best costume and enjoy treats like pumpkin carving demonstrations, games, music and shopping!

Goat Yoga

Want to try something different this fall? Get on trend with Goat Yoga! On October 28th Iris Mind + Body, located at 1376 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, New Jersey, will be hosting a Goat Yoga session for local attendees. New Jersey is the absolute perfect location for a fall time wedding or outdoor event. Being in close proximity to New York City, as well as several large airports, it makes it an easy place to travel to. New Jersey also offers a large range of venues including catering halls, beaches, rustic barns and large open fields. The fall season tends to be the driest in New Jersey which is a huge reason for its popularity. It seems like a beautiful outdoor New Jersey event would be something out of a fairytale. However, one thing that could put a wrench in your plans would be wedding or event crashers in the form of ticks and mosquitoes.

With the Summer winding down, you may think that mosquitoes and ticks will be less active but actually, it’s quite the opposite. The adult stages of black-legged ticks begin to become active as the season changes from summer into fall. In the northeastern United States, such as New Jersey, these adult stage ticks start to become abundant early in October. They will remain active through the winter as long as the temperatures are above freezing and the ground is not frozen or covered by snow.

Mosquitoes don’t immediately disappear with the start of the fall season either. They become less active after the temperature consistently hits below 50 degrees. The average temperature at the end of October in New Jersey is 55 degrees. That means mosquitoes could be staying around a lot longer than what we all thought.

When you’re hosting an outdoor event, the last thing you want to worry about is your guests getting covered in insect bites or even worst, tick bites. There are several things you could do to combat these issues head-on.

For mosquitoes, keep in mind what time of day they are most likely to strike. Your guests are most likely to be bit between dusk and dawn, so you might want to schedule your event festivities to avoid those hours. Include flowers around your venue that typically repel mosquitoes like lavender, marigolds and citronella. For ticks, you want to make sure your event space has been recently landscaped as ticks like to hide out in long grasses.

With all this frigid, icy weather surrounding us, it’s hard to believe that spring, wedding and communion season is right around the corner. April also marks the start of our mosquito season in New Jersey. Did you know that mosquitoes start becoming active when the temperature is consistently 50 degrees? As the temperatures rise higher, the volume of mosquito activity will only increase. It’s better to stay on top of your mosquito problems from the beginning so you have better control during the rest of mosquito season.

During the winter months, some female mosquitoes will find holes to live in while they wait for warmer weather. That means once it is warm enough they will be ready to lay their eggs, and they can lay up to 300 at one time. They usually lay eggs three times before they die, which means that you could have 900 eggs from the one female mosquito! Luckily our experts at Mosquito Joe are here to help.
